FALL 2019 FASHION ESSENTIALS

Fall is less than a month away and while we are all breathing in and enjoying the last few weeks of summer, there is something exciting to look forward to come September. Don’t get me wrong I could stay in the summer dresses, straw hats, and open toe sandals forever, but fall fashion does have a certain charm that’s hard to ignore.

So, let’s talk fall style. What’s going to be hot and trending in the fall and what essentials should you have in your closet to meet and greet the chillier season in full on style.

FASHION ESSENTIAL #1: TRENCH COAT

An absolute must in my closet is a great-fitting classic trench coat. Never out of style, a trench coat in a neutral color is a forever classic, whether it’s in beige, grey or black color. Personally, I love wearing it with my casual looks – boyfriend jeans and a pair of white runners. A trench gives my casual look a dressier vibe, without putting too much effort into it. And then of course you’ve got a classic 9 to 5 version that looks awesome with a pair of heels and wide leg trousers or a pencil skirt. Either or, it’s hard to compete with the sophisticated vibe of the trench coat.

FASHION ESSENTIAL #2: COMBAT BOOTS

Given my casual lifestyle and a personal preference for flat shoes, I dig shoe wear that’s not only stylish but also comfortable. And combat boots give me just that with a serious bad-ass vibe on the side. But can we talk about the cool different options available these days?! While Dr. Martens might have started the classic combat boot movement, so many designers have jumped on board and came up with their own interpretations – presenting you with dressy, casual, military, bejewelled, spiked, buckled, heeled, socked, steel-toe reinforced boots…have I missed any?

FASHION ESSENTIAL #3: CHUNKY SWEATERS

Can you possibly feel any more cozier than in an oversized chunky sweater? This is my ultimate go-to piece of clothing come fall. Best paired with slim jeans – the chunky sweater is super flattering to most shapes and sizes. Personally, I like to play around with bright colors and tend to go for bold purple and green oversized sweaters. However I love the sophisticated look of neutral, light-color cashmere sweaters, especially when paired with wide leg trousers and a pair of heels. Big sweaters are comfortable, warm, feminine and elegant all at the same time. Talk about versatility!

FASHION ESSENTIAL #4: CROSSBODY BAG

As life gets hectic and most of us are living on the go, one could appreciate not have to hold your bag, especially because one is holding a coffee in one hand and a phone in another. A crossbody bag comes to the rescue. To me, crossbody bags are the most practical and comfortable type of bag you can own. With so many great options out there, you could easily find the one that fits you’re your look and style best. Whether you prefer the gold touches of a classic quilted Chanel, or thick and sturdy handle of a bold-colored Mark Jacobs, or perhaps metal spikes of a Valentino – possibilities are endless. And when it comes to the practical reasons, I find it’s much easier to wear a crossbody over a chunky sweater or a coat in the colder month, rather than continuously have your shoulder bag slipping off.

FASHION ESSENTIAL #5: BLAZER

Blazers are hot any time of the year. But personally, I love styling a blazer in the fall. For me it’s a great timeless fashion piece that elevates any outfit to another level. Whether I wear one with a turtleneck or a dress shirt, blazer is the ultimate layering staple. Throw on a thick scarf, a cashmere pashmina, or a silky neck tie and you’ll complete the look. Wear it under a coat or on its own with a thicker sweater – blazer should be your go-to essential this upcoming fall.

For the more adventurous type, try an oversized menswear-inspired blazer that’s so in right now. Don’t be scared to step outside your comfort zone, if it looks a touch (or a lot) bigger than you would normally wear. Big shoulders, oversized sleeves, and longer length is all the RAGE in the fall. Tie a leather belt, if you’d like to accentuate your waste and create a flattering contrast between an oversized top and slimmer middle.

FASHION ESSENTIAL #6: MAXI SKIRT

Last but not least, pull out a maxi skirt to strut your stuff this fall. I’ve been talking about skirts forever now – in my social posts and in previous Youtube videos. And I can’t help it. I think maxi skirts are a hot trend – and not just for fall but throughout the whole year.

While styling skirts in the summer is a no-brainer, styling one in the fall is even more fun. There are so many ways you can wear a long skirt during colder days and look comfy and on trend. I usually pair a maxi skirt with a chunky sweater, and a pair of short booties or a slouchy leather boot. Love, love, love this look. Long skirts with an oversized or cropped blazer is another great option. The trick is to experiment and use your judgement to see what fits your shape and form best and makes you feel good.

That’s a wrap! What are YOU looking forward to
wearing in the fall of 2019?
